Fred "Pete" Childers

Mr. Fred “Pete” Childers, Jr., 82, made his journey to Heaven on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Pete was born in York County, and was the son of the late Fred Childers, Sr. and Marjorie Hardin Childers. Pete was a Veteran of the Korean War and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church where he had previously served in various positions.
Uncle Pete, as he was known by his family and friends, served as a volunteer fireman with the Town of Sharon for 55 years. Although Pete had no children of his own, he was a father figure to his numerous nieces and nephews, as well as the Sharon community.
The family will receive friends for Pete from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Sharon Baptist Church Family Life Center. Services for Pete will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Sharon Baptist Church with the Reverend Sam Murphy officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Church cemetery.

Pete is survived by his wife, Betty Childers of the home;
