Frances Jones YORK Frances Godfrey Jones, 89, of 107 Springdale Dr died Sunday, May 27, 2012, at her home in York. "Well done, good and faithful servant you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord." The funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Central Baptist Church. Rev. Carey Caldwell and Rev. Coit Auten will be officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 6 - 8 PM at Bratton Funeral Home, and other times at the home, 107 Springdale Dr. Frances Valerie Godfrey Jones was born on July 11, to R.C. and Lillie Martin Godfrey. When she was about 13 years old, she began playing the piano at Charlotte Street Baptist Church (the original Central). She served a dual role of organist and music director for many years. In the 1980s she gave up the music directors job and became the organist/music assistant. Mrs. Frances was married for 32 years to the late Charlie L. Jones. They have one son, Dennis, his wife Carolyn, and a granddaughter Nikki. She also has two step grandsons, Daniel and Billy Payne. She has played for countless weddings and funerals and is well-known in the community. In addition to her church work, she worked at Winthrop University as a supervisor of a resident hall and taught piano lessons for many years. She also taught music at Sharon High School. Frances was member of the Eastern Star in York. Mrs. Frances has been an inspiration to many aspiring musicians. Her love of music and her desire to ensure that the music at Central was appropriate and divinely inspired have made her career and life an example to all.
