McDonald & New Funeral Homes traces its roots through multiple generations of Owen County funeral service. The Main Street location originated as C.F. Beverly and Son Funeral Home, advertised as early as 1918, and operated under various partnerships including Watson and Orr (1926), Kemper and Orr (1947), and Kemper and Arnold (1957) before Thomas L. McDonald acquired it in 1985. The Seminary Street location began operating in the late 1800s under Clayton Hartsough, became Redding Funeral Home in 1906, and later Smither and Coates before McDonald's acquisition.

The funeral home operates two facilities in Owenton and maintains sister locations in Carroll and Gallatin Counties. All staff members were born and raised in Owen County.
