Mathews Funeral Home was founded in 1949 as Woodall Funeral Home on North Jefferson Street in Albany. The business was housed in the historic Wight-Davis house, originally built in 1876 by Confederate Colonel Edwin Wight and later owned by Dr. W. L. Davis. Walter Mathews and his sons Gary and Mike acquired the business in 1976.
In 1984, the funeral home relocated to its current facility on Gillionville Road. The following year, the Mathews family constructed an on-site crematorium, allowing cremations to be handled directly at the funeral home. In 1997, the family expanded operations by purchasing Leesburg Cemetery to serve families throughout Dougherty County.
The funeral home offers monuments and memorials in bronze, granite, and marble. Gary and Mike Mathews continue to operate the family business, now spanning nearly five decades under the Mathews name.
