Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel was established in 1944 when Heath and Blanche Griffiths purchased the Bergmeyer Funeral Home in Beatrice. Dick Hovendick joined the firm in 1960, followed by his son Rich Hovendick in 1978, and Samantha Thompson became the fourth generation when she joined in 2016. Both Dick and Rich Hovendick are licensed funeral directors, embalmers, and pre-need salesmen.
The family owns multiple locations including the Adams chapel, the main facility in Beatrice at 708 North 6th Street (built in 1956 as the first purpose-built funeral home in Beatrice), the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt, and the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore. The Beatrice facility features a chapel with seating for over 100 people, expanded in 2013. Live-streaming services are available for families who cannot attend in person.
