John W. Gober, Jr. established Gober Funeral Chapel in 1954 after acquiring a funeral home previously operated by W.H. Pruitt on Main Street in Arab. The current facility on Guntersville Road was built in 1962, and Mr. Gober served Marshall County families until his retirement in the late 1990s.
Greg Stone serves as manager and funeral director, having joined the staff in 1990 and earning his funeral director's license in 1993. He holds degrees in Business Management from Wallace State Community College and Funeral Service Education from Jefferson State, and received his embalmer's license through the National Board in 1994. Some of Mr. Gober's original employees remain on staff today.
The funeral home provides veteran's services and handles benefits coordination for qualifying families. They also offer pre-planning consultations and grief support resources.
