About Gaines Funeral Homes
William A. Gaines and Rosa M. Kirby founded Gaines Funeral Home in 1972 after meeting while working together at Ball Funeral Home in the late 1960s. William Gaines was known for his embalming skills developed over 50 years in the funeral profession, while Rosa Gaines was recognized for her speaking ability. The business operated as a husband-and-wife team until William's passing in 2006 and Rosa's in 2007.
Now in its second generation of family ownership, Gaines Funeral Home operates two locations in Cleveland. The original Union Avenue location has served Cleveland's east side for over 43 years. The Maple Heights facility opened in January 2016 and features four viewing rooms, a dining area for repasts and family gatherings, and a full showroom displaying caskets, vaults, and urns.
The funeral home offers both traditional services and customized alternatives designed to meet changing preferences in how families memorialize their loved ones. Staff accommodate cultural and religious funeral traditions and provide flexible options for both burial and cremation services.
