Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors was established in 1882 when John H. Fox opened an undertaking establishment on West Liberty Street in what is now Savannah's Downtown Historic District. In 1898, Fox partnered with his brother-in-law James S. Weeks, and the firm remained under continuous family ownership through five generations. The business moved in 1953 to the historic Kayton-Grainger-Huger House at 700 Drayton Street facing Forsyth Park, purchased by J. Elmo Weeks and his sons S. Elmo Weeks and Will D. Weeks. A second location opened in 1984 on the southside of Savannah.
Fox & Weeks operates the only on-site crematory in Savannah, ensuring that remains are handled exclusively by their professional staff throughout the cremation process. The funeral home maintains two locations in Chatham County: the Hodgson Memorial Drive facility and a second chapel on Highway 80 East. As one of the oldest and largest funeral homes in Georgia, the firm has served Savannah for over 140 years.
