Dr. Norman Mullins
YORK -- Dr. Norman Douglas Mullins, Sr., 76, of 417 Garrett Lane passed away Monday, January 25, 2016, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill.
Born July 1, 1939 in Shelby Gap, KY, Norman was the son of the late Ansel and Lenore Mullins. Norman spent his childhood in southwestern West Virginia and received his BA and MA from Marshall University where he was a member of the football team. Norman later earned his PhD from Ohio University and started his career in education.
He was a high school teacher and principal in West Virginia and upstate New York before moving to South Carolina. Norman was a member of the Piedmont Project Team, Principal of Berea High School, area Assistant Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Greenville, SC, Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Charleston, SC, and Superintendent for the Clover School District in Clover, SC.
After retirement, Norman wrote and published a book of poetry and the first book in a trilogy, Mountain Boy, for young people. He enjoyed reading, water aerobics, and old movies. Norman was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Rock Hill, SC.
He is survived by his wife Hilary W. Mullins of York, SC, son Doug Mullins of Mankato, MN, and brother Burgoyne Mullins of Springfield, VA.
The family will receive friends from 7 – 9 PM on Friday, January 29, 2016 at the home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
