OBITUARY NOTICE

Dorothy G. (Dot) Neil, 87, of 7 Georgia Ave York, SC passed away quietly at her residence on Wednesday September 30, 2015. Born Dorothy Anne Grossman in Youngstown, Ohio on July 18, 1928, she was the eldest of four siblings to parents, John Grossman and Ethel Dixon Grossman. She was a graduate of East High School in 1946 and moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the U.S. Department of Treasury.
She married Samuel (Howard) Neil of York, SC on November 25, 1946 in Washington, D.C. and moved to York in 1947. Mrs. Neil worked as a nurse for Divine Savior Hospital and for Dr. John M. Pratt in York. She owned and operated a bakery on Congress Street during the 1980s and ‘90s. As a founding member of Divine Savior Catholic Church, over the years she served as Eucharistic Minister, Sunday School teacher, and president of the Women’s Club.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel Neil and Margaret Quinn of York, and Dwayne and Catherine Neil of Atlanta, GA.; siblings John E. Grossman of Youngstown, OH and Barbara Grossman Franken of Liberty Lake, WA.; Grandchildren Sami Jo Neil of Indian Land, SC, Grace Neil and Jackson Neil of Atlanta, GA; Great Grandchildren Erick Neil, Raul Neil, Angel Neil, Samuel Neil and Joseph Neil. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son John Howard Neil, Grandson Malcom Neil, and brother Paul Grossman of New Castle, PA.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 PM at Bratton Funeral Home on October 5 with a memorial Rosary from 5:00-5:30. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated October 6 at 10:00 AM at Divine Savior Catholic Church, 232 Herndon Ave. York, SC 29745 immediately followed by a graveside memorial service at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.
The family would like to thank all family, friends, church members and Agape Hospice of York who helped with Mrs. Neil’s care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Divine Savior Catholic Church Women’s Club or the charity of choice.
