Charles Plemmons
YORK – Charles B. Plemmons, 84, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church in York with Rev. Josh Blackwelder officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 – 3:30 PM at Trinity UMC on Sunday.

Born and raised in Lockhart, SC, Charles was the son of the late Mac and Athalee Plemmons. Charles was a graduate of Lockhart High School, a veteran of the US Marine Corp, and retired from Duke Energy after 34 years of dedicated service.

It is not humanly possible to be a more dedicated family man. He fiercely loved his wife, Jo, for 61 years. Although he had two wonderful daughters, Amy and Lisa, he was happy to adopt his sons-in-law, Stephen and Tom, as his own. His incredible energy level, sense of duty to all, and infectious charisma will be forever remembered and displayed through his grandchildren, Brooke, Max, and Zach.

Charles was a firm believer that actions speak louder than words. In his spare time, Charles was relentless in his desire to help the community. He was very active in raising money for the York and Clover Band programs, numerous local churches, and various civic groups throughout the county by managing fish fries for well over 40 years. Charles also helped to manage the PATH Thrift Store. He belonged to many civic organizations such as the Masons, The Lancaster Chapter of the Shriners, and the York Rotary Club. He was actively involved with local government as a board member to York County Economic Development, Pennies for Progress, PATH, and Summerfest. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation, recognized by the Governor as a South Carolina Ambassador for Economic Development, and selected as one of the “Nine Who Care” by Channel 9 News. While he was crowned the “Duke of York” at Summerfest, most knew him best as the “The Fish Fry King”.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, PO Box 376, York, SC 29745.
