Betty Taylor
Betty M. Taylor, of York, SC, died Nov. 17, 2012 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C. She was born August 28, 1934 in York, South Carolina to the late Ann W. Harkey. and John L. Morrow. She lived at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Greenwood, S.C. for 10 years and graduated from Greenwood High School. Life at the children’s home would mark her indelibly with a positive influence that would serve her for the rest of her life. On May 13th 1952, Betty was united in marriage to James B. Taylor and, that same year, the beneficial direction bestowed upon her from her time at the children’s home lead her to join the First Baptist Church of York, where she would in time, along with helping anyone she could along the way, dedicate 50 years of service to the church nursery; giving freely of her spiritual accord through practically two generations. Betty was a self-employed store owner serving York for 18 years. After selling the business, she became an employee of the York Electric Cooperative, Inc. where she remained a diligent employee held in high regard for 27 years. After retiring, with no work to interfere, she was able to dedicate a substantially larger portion of her time to providing for the needs of others in the same selfless manner that the proprietors of Connie Maxwell had provided for her as a child; proving that a little kindness can span decades and touch multiple generations. Betty is survived by her 2 sons, Carson Taylor, Rock Hill, and John Taylor, West Palm Beach, Fla.
