Alberta “Bert” Wicker Wood, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 28, 2018.
Bert was born July 10, 1925 to the late Albert Monroe Wicker and Elizabeth Gertrude Stevenson Wicker in Charlotte, NC. She was a graduate of Central High School and Carolina Business School. She enjoyed traveling to be with her husband Ken, who was a professional baseball player.
Throughout her life, Bert was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, Mulberry Presbyterian Church, and Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was a faithful servant, having spent time as an elder, choir member, bell choir member, and Sunday School teacher. She was retired from Pneumafil Corp. as an executive assistant after 24 years. An ardent sports lover, Bert bowled for many years, and rooted for the Atlanta Braves. Bert was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her three children, Betsy Evans of Midland, NC, Ken Wood, Jr. of Columbia, SC, and Suzanne Hudson of York, SC, grandchildren, Brad Barnett (Missy), Cindy McCoy (Dalton), Smitty Smith, TJ Hudson (Nikki), great grandchildren, Allyson Barnett and Kyle Smith, and great-great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Taylor, and Cameron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ken Wood.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
