Brother Woodrow W. Lowder was an exceptional man in the army of the lord. He was a prominent resident of Dublin, Georgia, who loved the Lord with all his heart. On October 17, 2013, God spoke!
He was born on August 30, 1924 to John Mobley Lowder and Patsy Toler-Lowder of Adrian, Georgia. He moved to Dublin with his family at an early age and joined Scottsville Baptist Church, now known as Second Baptist Church of Dublin. He served faithfully until his health began to fail and he was no longer able to attend services.
Brother Lowder was educated in the city of Dublin and graduated from Washington Street High School. He then went on to serve his country in the US Marines in World War II. He retired from Robins Air Force Base after 30 years of service and received numerous commendations and awards. He also worked as a painter many years after his retirement.
Woodrow Lowder was an intricate part of the community and highly recognized for his contributions and service. He was a charter member of the Roy T. Hughes American Legion Post #573, Revelers Sportsman’s Club, and the Washington Street Alumni Association. He also provided notary services for the community.
“Brother Woody,” as he was affectionately called by those close to him, loved God and his church. He was a faithful and dedicated church member who served on the Usher Board Ministry more than fifty years. He poured out his spirit and talents by serving on the Board of Directors, Program Committee, Church Finance Committee, Saturday Outreach Ministry, president of the Usher Board Ministry and as a Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Lowder leaves many cherished memories to his loving, devoted wife of 53 years, Flora Dunlap Lowder. Their bond was one ordained and blessed by God. His legacy of dedication and faithfulness will also live on in the hearts of his daughters, son, and in-laws, Curretta (Ronald) McRae of Dublin, Dannette (Darryl) Poole of Atlanta, and Delvin (Octavia) Brown of Atlanta. His four grandchildren, Jasmine, Joshua, and Nicholas McRae and Darryl Poole, Jr. whom he loved dearly, will always remember the love of a God fearing grandfather. He will also be sadly missed by a host of other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
