Affectionately known to many as"Nunt," she was born on August 13, 1946, in Dublin, Georgia, to the late Herman and Gertrude E. Montford, where she was the twelfth of thirteen children. As a child, Mrs. Montford-Joseph attended the Buckeye Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ as her personal savior and began her christian walk. Her early education began at the B.D. Perry School. She received her diploma from the Miami-Dade Community Center. She passionately pursed a higher education, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources, and a Master of Science in Family & Marriage Therapy from Saint Thomas University of Miami, Florida. Prior to retirement, she was employed for many years with the Bertha Abess Children’s Center where she served as an educator/clinical therapist helping children with severe social and emotional needs.
In 1972, She met and married Merrill (Papa) Bernard Joseph, Sr. forming a forever family. To this union Merrill (Bernard) Joseph, Jr. was born, and the creation of a beautiful blended family: Bruce Montford, Corshea (Krisha) Montford-Thomas, and Tina Thomas. Ruth loved her family dearly, and did everything she could to keep them together. She loved family/friend gatherings, opened and shared her home/food with all. All who met her, loved her. She had a knack for being inclusive and loving people from all walks of life without forming judgments. Ruth was a positive person with a zest for life, and a passion for people. During her illness, she never complained. When asked: how are you? She would reply, “I feel good”, although, many times she would be in pain. She was in peace as she went home to be present with the Lord. She passed away on February 20, 2016.
