Willie Mitchell

Funeral services for Mr. Willie James Mitchell, of East Dublin, Georgia, will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 12 PM at the Holly Springs Baptist Church, 705 Buckeye Road in East Dublin. Bishop Charles E. Moss will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Affectionately known as “Fat Man”, Mr. Mitchell was born in Dublin, Georgia, on June 5, 1951, to Mr. Willie Glenn Mitchell, Sr., and Mrs. Adell Henderson Mitchell. He attended the B. D. Perry High School. He was a deacon at Universal Pentecostal Church in Wrightsville, Georgia. Mr. Mitchell and Rosetta Wells were married on December 3, 1988. He was retired from Bassett Furniture after 30 years of service. However, he continued working as a heavy equipment operator at Graham Construction. He was often busy with his woodworking and he was fond of John Deere tractors. He was a man of few, but very meaningful words. He passed away on April 27, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Compton, and by his siblings, Joe Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Annie Thorpe, and Willie Glenn Mitchell, Jr.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his loving wife, Rosetta Mitchell, his children, Deborah (Charles) Moss, Linda (Jessie) Brown, Gregory Smith, Sr., Marcy (John) Walker, and Cathy (Desi) Robinson, son-in-law, Garry Compton, his sister, Lola (Laron) Thompkins, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his in-laws including Nadilie Mitchell, Doris Mitchell, Fletta Wells, Gwen Mitchell, Bernice Burley, Lois Rozier, Mae Lois Sheeley, Lena Wells, Charles Wells, and Larry Wells, and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 1153 Graham Road, East Dublin, and on Wednesday, May 2, 6-7 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home.
