Funeral services for Mr. William Edward Chavis, of Wrightsville, will be held at 1 PM on Friday, October 27, 2017, at the Saint Galilee Baptist Church at 1053 Idylwild Road in Wrightsville. Pastor James Blair will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Chavis, known by many as “Rico” or “Chavis”, was born on July 8, 1951, to the late Isabelle Ridley Chavis and the late McKinley Chavis in Henderson, North Carolina. He attended the public schools in Vance County and after graduation, he joined the United States Army. He worked at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia, and later attended Swainsboro Technical College to become an electrical technician. He loved working as an electrician, and he worked on major projects for different contract companies around Georgia as well as working locally for family and friends. He eventually got his commercial drivers license and began traveling locally and state-to-state, driving trucks and buses. He enjoyed fishing, playing chess and cards, experimenting with golf, and spending time with family and friends. On August 21, 1976, William and Annie Wallace were married, and had two children. Mr. Chavis depended on and loved his “Ann” for over 40 years. He departed this life on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at his residence in Wrightsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, McKinley and Isabelle Chavis, by sisters, Alma Robinson and Josephine Richards, by brothers, McKinley Chavis, Jr., and Roosevelt Chavis, and by a son, William Chavis, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Annie Pearl Chavis of Wrightsville; children, Cherita Boggs and Reginald (Keneshia) Chavis of Pembroke, and Michael Chavis of Henderson, North Carolina, sister, Constello Chavis of Henderson, North Carolina, brothers, Constant Chavis and Ervin (Naomi) Chavis of Henderson, North Carolina, granddaughters, Wykila Chavis of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Tymeisha Chavis of Greensboro, North Carolina; grandsons, Austin Boggs, Kameron Boggs, and Carter Chavis of Pembroke, Jaylon Chavis of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Bayshen Chavis of Franklin, North Carolina; great-grandson, Kameron Davis of Greensboro, North Carolina,,sisters-in-law, Adell Wallace, Annie Lee Wallace, Atlean (Roy) Wilcher, and Dian (Ardell) Wright of Wrightsville, Louise Hodges of Pompano, Florida, and Mary Lou Chavis of Virginia Beach, Virginia, brothers-in-law, Willie Frank Wallace and Johnny Wallace of Meriden, Connecticut, and Dalton Wallace of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and caring friends.

The family is receiving friends at 101 Oglethorpe Street in Wrightsville.
