Bill Brandon BLOWING ROCK William David Brandon (Bill), 89, formerly of York, passed away on April 10, 2012 at the Davant Extended Care Facility in Blowing Rock, NC. Born in 1922 to the late Issac Lonnie Brandon and Lillian Robinson Brandon, Bill was a World War II Veteran who made the landing on Utah Beach in Normandy on the 6th day of the invasion – June 12th, 1944. He proudly served his country during the war throughout England, France and Germany with the 64th Airdrome Squadron, operating air fields throughout Europe. He was preceded in death by his dearly beloved wife of sixty years, Doris Farris Brandon. Together, they owned Brandon Furniture in York for twenty five years. As well, Bill retired in 1985 from operating privatized ABC Stores in the state of South Carolina for over thirty years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always placed his family first. His memory will be forever cherished by his daughter, Billie Brandon Howell and husband, Raymond three grandchildren, William Brandon Howell and wife Tiffany, Doris Howell Diamant and husband Steve, and Joseph John Howell sisters, Alice Brandon Carroll, Lillian Brandon Dinklage and Susan Brandon Adkins brother, Issac Leon Brandon, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Allan Robinson Brandon and his sister, Margaret Brandon Norman. Bill was a continuous member of the American Legion Frank Roach Post 34 in Rock Hill, SC for 62 years and of the Forty & Eight Society for 56 years. The family will receive friends at Bratton Funeral Home on Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 2-3 PM with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.
