William "Bill" Whitesides III

Mr. William Lester Whitesides, III of Smyrna, SC passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2014, after a courageous fight with esophageal cancer. He is now in his forever home, pain-free and enjoying barbeque. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in York, SC at two in the afternoon on Thursday, December 4, 2014, to celebrate his life. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Trinity Center.
Mr. Whitesides, known by most as Bill, was 64 years old and is the son of the late William Lester Whitesides, Jr. and Gladys Riddle Whitesides of Smyrna, SC. He was an active member of Smyrna ARP Church for many years, where he served as a deacon and an elder, then became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he and his wife, Susie Beverly Whitesides, were wed 43 years ago. Although his strong, broad shoulders are no longer with us, his kind, selfless spirit and strength will live on in the hearts of his wife, his daughter, Porter Whitesides Gable, and her husband, Jordan Gable. He is also survived by his sisters Anne Whitesides Weeks, Jeanne Whitesides Karagias (Nick), Susan Whitesides Benfield (Michael), and Leslie Whitesides Rountree (John); his sister-in-laws Jeanie Lipps (Jack) and Patti Brady; and his many nieces and nephews.
Bill appreciated all of God’s splendor, especially spring flowers and mountain top views. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Cooper and Lucy, and cat, Sophie, listening to music outside with “his girls” and “fix-it partner” Jordan by a warm fire and admiring nature. He loved good food, but more so the smiles on the faces that enjoyed his cooking. His bright blue eyes were a beacon to his warm heart, always putting his faith, family, and others first. He was dearly loved and will be missed by many.
