Walter Schilling

Walter Joseph Schilling passed from this life on Tuesday, October 22, at the age of 71 after battling cancer for the last 18 months. Walt was born in St. Louis, Illinois, graduated from SIU Carbondale, and received his MBA at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio He moved to California in 1979 to become part of the computer industry in Silicon Valley. During his career, he enjoy working in telecommunications and computer systems at such companies as ROLM, AIM, 3Com, and several other early start-ups.
In 1989 Walt married Debby on the beach in Kona, Hawaii. They moved to Los Altos in 1995 and had two children, Ted and Emily. Walt is also survived by two sons, Joe and Wally, Wally’s wife Tina, and Amanda, his first grandchild.
Walt’s true passion was sailing his boat, the Aegir. Many great times were had sailing on the bay, under the Golden Gate Bridge, listening to Jimmy Buffet. His warm smile, dry sense of humor, and thoughtful conversations will be missed by all who know and love him. With his interest in navigation and sailing, he was an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Services are pending.
