Mrs. Vernell Ricks Howard 82 years old of Texarkana, AR, formerly of Clarksville, Texas and Denison, Texas, went to be with her heavenly father, February 6, 2013 in her residence. Funeral service was Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Citizens Funeral Home Chapel, Clarksville, Texas with Rev. Jimmy Bogan officiating. Interment was in Williams Cemetery, Clarksville, Texas.


Vernell Ricks was born on December 12, 1930 to the parents of Will Ricks and Flossie Harris in Clarksville Texas. God saw fit to bring her home on February 6, 2013 the age of 82.

The family relocated to Denison, Texas when she was at an early age. She attended Langston Elementary School and Terrell High School.

Vernell Ricks was joined in holy wedlock to Melvin Howard and one daugfhter was born, Minerva Bernice Howard.
Vernell Howard was a loving mother, grandmother, friend and she loved the Lord. Sister Howard worked as a Nurses Aide at Memorial Hospital from 1968 to 1988, after which she retired. Vernell Howard and family relocated to Texarkanna ,Arkansas in 2008 where she spent the remainder of her life.

She is preceded in death by parents Will Ricks & Flossie Harris, brothers Jim, Lawrence (Jr.), John Lee, Jessie and Willie Mack; and Sister Ruby Jo Ricks.
She is survived by her daugther Bernice Howard (Leroy Wallace)of Texarkana Arkansas, Sister Hattie Mae Pearson of Clarksville, Texas and brothers Sam Ricks of Tulsa Oklahoma and Billy Ricks of Sherman, Texas
Step children, Nitika (Bell) Battles, Jackie Matthews, Shasta Jilles, and Jeannette Blanton. Her special friend was Claude Bell. She has 2 grand-children and 13 step grand-children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
