Verlion Blair

Funeral services for Deacon Verlion Blair, of Wrightsville, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at 9 AM in the Lovett Grove Community Church Cemetery at 1359 Idylwild Road in Wrightsville. Reverend Keith Geter will deliver the eulogy.

Deacon Verlion Blair, Sr., was born on October 19, 1933, in Johnson County, Georgia. Verlion was one of nine children born to the late Fred and Clyde Blair of Wrightsville. He was one of the original members along with his father, mother, sisters, and brothers, along with other fellow Christians, to help establish the Lovett Grove Baptist Church (now known as the Lovett Grove Community Baptist Church). He was one of the original founders of the singing group “The True Gospel Singers” of Wrightsville He used to carry his sons, Michael and Milton. around to sing standing them in a chair at the ages of three and five. From there. they became known as “The Blair Brothers Gospel Singing Group”, and later added to the group were Curtis Blair and Eugene Williams, Jr. Verlion was also known as the neighborhood mechanic. He and his brother, Perlie, were owners of their own logging company.

He loved the Lord and he loved his family and friends. He always had a story to tell when he wanted you to understand the scriptures, which are God’s Words. He made it so clear that even a child could understand. When he was asked "what do you want", he would say "I want to love everybody". His favorite song to sing was “You’re Going To Need (Somebody) On Your Bond”. He always said be kind to others because you never know who you might need. He loved all of his children, grandchildren, great grand kids, nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters. He led by example on how to love, how to be patient, exhibit long suffering, and how to be forbearing with one another no matter how hard it may get. He was indeed a rock and stone. No matter what the world would say or what others may say.

We love you and you loved us as well as you loved others. Our father and mother’s wishes were for us to love and forgive each other as they loved and forgave us. Deacon Blair passed away on July 22, 2020.
