Vera Charles

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Charles will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at 12:00 Noon, in the William Grove Baptist Church, 104 West Mary Street, Dublin, Georgia 31021. The Rev. James Timothy Jackson will officiate and burial will follow in the Dudley's Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Vera Elizabeth McBride Charles was born January 11, 1926 to the late Lucious and Nicey Lee McBride. She was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 20, 2016.
Her young life was spent with her parents and siblings living as workers on different farms in the surrounding area. She began her young work life cooking in different cafes, working as a domestic for many years and working in the homes of many different families, namely the Scarboro’s, Roches, Pezolds and Canady’s. Because of her ability to iron life the professionals, she was in constant demand to iron for many people throughout the community. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed her family. She took great pleasure in being a great cook. She retired from working
twenty-five years ago. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age. She was a
Member the Montford Grove Baptist Church where she served as an Usher and later the Usher President for many years. She was an active member of WMBS Missionary Society, Bible Study and the Laurens-Dublin City Wide Mission. She enjoyed leading congregational songs, not only at Montford Grove, but at any church where it was needed. Mrs. Charles was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-four years, Deacon Hugo Chsarles, Sr., a sister, Lucille Norris, brothers, Horace, Matthew and Bill McBride, two sons, Robert lee Haynes and Quincy “Bo” Charles, one daughter, Teresa Charles Freeman, two step-daughters, Eddie Jean King and Linda Howard.
Mrs. Charles leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories, daughters,
Joe Ann McBride and Faye Ann McBride, Dublin, Ga., Bobbie Charles Melton, Dublin, Ga., sons, Morris Charles, San Antonio, TX., Mervin Charles, Herbert Charles (Patricia), Hugo Charles, Jr., Otha Charles (Kerry), all of Dublin, Ga., and grandchildren she reared in her home, Vashon Antonio McBride (Dianne), Johnnie Charles, Michael
Freeman, and Caitlin Branham, Dublin, Ga., a brother-in-law, Deacon Earnest Charles, two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Carolyn Brown, Mrs. Robbie Lee Thomas, Dublin, Ga.,
Devoted nephew, Mr. Robert Le Taylor (Dorothy), 31 other grandchildren, fifty-five great -
grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mrs. Charles will be placed in the church one hour prior to the services.
Friends are being received at the family residence, 904 West Moore Street, Dublin, Ga.
