Tommie Scott

Tommie Keith Scott, 75, of Excelsior Springs, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, March 29, 2016.

Tommie was born November 10, 1940, in Chariton County, Missouri, to Dorothy and Leo Scott. He was the third of 8 children. He grew up in the Salisbury area and worked at his father’s sawmill until he was drafted into the Army. In the Army he became a marksman and a mechanic. After he was discharged from the Army he was introduced to and soon married Shirley McClaren.

He became an employee of the Ford Motor Company. He worked there for thirty years, raising a family of four children whom he loved dearly. He retired in 1997 and enjoyed many years living in Polo, MO, in the home that he built with the help of his two sons. He maintained and operated a hobby sawmill of his own.

During his life Tommie enjoyed working on cars, sawing wood, and, most of all, teaching his children and grandkids new things. He also spent a lot of time watching NASCAR races.

Tommie is survived by his wife Shirley, of the home and his children, son Tommie and wife Kristina Scott, of Excelsior Springs, daughter Laurel Campbell, of Rayville, son Tim and wife Effie Scott, of Excelsior Springs, and daughter Lisa and husband Tim Shroyer, of Excelsior Springs. Also surviving Tommie are three sisters and one brother, Shirley and Melvin Harrelson, of Olathe; Carolyn Stanfield, of Excelsior Springs; Sheryl and Raymond Acton, of Marceline; and Gene and Betty Porter of Marceline. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Tommie was preceded in death by both his parents, two grandchildren, Allyson Shroyer and David High, two sisters, Connie Sue Scott and Doris Pope, and one brother Bobby (Pug) Scott.
Visitation will be held Friday April 1, 2016, at 1pm at the Calvary Baptist Church in Rayville, Missouri, followed by the funeral at 2pm. Burial will be at Crowley Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs, MO, (816) 637-3000.
