Funeral services for Mrs. Susie J. Carswell will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Brown Hill Baptist Church at 2081 Highway 112 in Cochran. Reverend E.T. Slappy will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brown Hill Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Carswell, who passed on Sunday, July 14, 2013, was born on August 25, 1928, as the ninth of ten children born to the late Plummer and the late Geneva Troupe Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis L. Carswell, Sr. and a son, Tyrus M. Carswell.

Mrs. Susie J. Carswell was the president of the usher board and the mother of Brown Hill Baptist Church for many years. She dedicated her life to serving the church and speaking at many events at Brown Hill and surrounding churches. She received her early childhood Christian experience at Laurens Hill Baptist Church. She was a caring person, hard worker, loving and devout Christian who not only talked "the golden rule" but lived "the golden rule". She helped numerous people get to work, let use her car to get to school, and she loaned money to those who needed assistance. She has left an example for us all to follow, as a mother, grandmother, missionary, farmer, and a spiritual mother of the church. Mrs. Carswell was admired for her jubilation and joy at hearing the gospel. You could always count on her to clap and shout words of encouragement to the preacher.

Mrs. Carswell is survived by a devoted family; son, MSG (RET) Lewis L. Carswell, Jr. of Danville; daughter, COL (RET) Geneva C. Sanders; son-in-law, LTC (RET) Danny W. Sanders of Danville; son, Latrelle L. Carswell; daughter-in-law, Bessie Carswell of Dudley. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alexis Davis, Ashley Davis, Derek Sanders, Paxton Rogers, Steve Davis, Damario Johnson, Dr. Kristina Freeman, Traci Carswell, and Tamira Carswell. Mother Carswell has seven great-grandchildren; a surviving brother, John L. Jones of Chester; sister, Rosetta Jones Vickers (Zebedee) of Miami, FL; one sister-in-law, Lemmie Thomas Jones of Chester; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thanks to Ms. Iris Anderson for her many hours of love and support shown over the last seven years.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Brown Hill Baptist Church Bldg Fund in honor of Susie J. Carswell at the Four County Bank, P.O. Box 106, Allentown, Georgia 31003.

The family will receive friends at 366 Carmel Church Road in Danville and at the Dudley Funeral Home on Friday from 6-7 pm.
