Shirley Higdon-Brown

Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Ann Higdon-Brown, 69, of Dublin, Georgia, will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019, at 11 AM at the First African Baptist Church, 405 Telfair Street, in Dublin. Reverend Torey Fountain will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at the Saint Luke Church Cemetery in Dexter.

Mrs. Shirley Ann Higdon-Brown was born on August 12, 1950, in Dublin, to the late Homer Wilson Higdon and Mrs. Lucille Walker Higdon. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and eagerly joined Howard Chapel United Methodist Church. In that vein, she diligently served on the Usher Ministry for many years, but her passion was serving persistently at the Soup Kitchen at the church, a Trustee board member, and was on a host of committees at the church. Shirley, a fervent loyal Trojan alum, was an astute graduate of Oconee High School. Scholarly, she received her Associate’s degree in Nursing from Middle Georgia College in Eastman and her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, respectively. She was a proud Hospital Corpsman of the United States Navy and Vietnam-era veteran.

In addition, she was a true champion who diligently devoted her talents in assisting others. She was altruistically committed as a Registered Nurse for a continuous span of 38 years. Mrs. Brown was a long-time, faithful member of Howard Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Fidelity Chapter #45. She was a member of many organizations, societies, and associations, such as: charter member of the Women’s Memorial, Washington, D.C. and a member of the National Museum of African American History & Culture, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., to name a few. Her passion for the Lord and the community was an extension of her home. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, nurse, usher, and friend. Her life journey ended with the same spirit and determination she lived with on September 13, 2019 at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Moreover, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Homer Wilson Higdon. Mrs. Brown leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Henry W. Brown of Dublin, Georgia; mother, Mrs. Lucille Walker Higdon of Alpharetta, GA; daughters, Dr. Nikki (Byron) Coley of Stockbridge, Georgia; Latonya Higdon of Dublin, Georgia; sister, Belinda (Quinn) Pinckney of Alpharetta, Georgia; brothers, Willie Lee Higdon of Milledgeville, Georgia; Clifford (Barbara) Higdon of Milledgeville, Georgia; Carl (Betty) Higdon of Dublin, Georgia; Larry (Cynthia) Higdon of Dublin, Georgia; her devoted three grandchildren, Jaylon Denzel Higdon of Dublin, Georgia, Hannah Camille and Olivia Caitlyn Coley of Stockbridge, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 1038 Maid Marian Lane in Dublin, Georgia, and at the Dudley Funeral Home on Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 6-7 PM
