Sheronda Brenetta Craig was born September 3, 1947, to the late Delbert Jackson Craig, Jr. and Thelma Jean Black, in Marshall, TX. She graduated from Morning High School in Inglewood, California; earned an Associate of Arts Degree from El Centro College in Dallas, TX and attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX.
Sheronda found her greatest joy in serving Christ, working in the church and praying for others. She started serving in the church at an early age as an usher, working in the nursery and by singing in the choir as well as the acapella choir while residing in California. Later, after moving back to Texas, Sheronda affiliated with Zion Traveler’s Baptist Church. She later became a faithful and devoted member of God’s Temple Second Chance Church of God and Christ, under the leadership of Superintendent Samuel Williams and Rev. Lester Collins Nunley. Sheronda was very active in the church and served in the following ministries: Sunday School Teacher; teacher of the Young People Willing Workers (YPWW) and teacher of the Bible Band. Sheronda was also a Bible scholar, memorized scripture and a devout prayer warrior. Later, Sheronda was also a member of Overcomer Church of God in Christ in Paris, TX under the leadership of Rev. Lester Collins Nunley. Due to her health condition, she was no longer able to attend church services; however, the minister and members of the congregation would regularly come and worship with her at Clarksville Nursing Center.
On September 15, 2015, Sheronda Craig transitioned from life to her heavenly reward. She leaves to cherish her memories her siblings, Gregory Johnson and Marian Gail Johnson; her half-sister: Sharon Craig Francis; half-brothers, Derett Craig and Eric Craig and step mother, Jerlene Craig. Sheronda has a host of relatives, extended family and friends who will forever treasure her beautiful memories. Her beloved aunt, Mrs. Jercile Williams of Dallas, TX, reared and took care of her for many years. Mrs. Williams loved and provided for Sheronda as if she were her own child until Sheronda’s death. Sheronda remained steadfast in her belief in Christ even during physical difficulties and challenges. It was evident by her service to the church and her strong faith that Sheronda was a virtuous woman after God’s own heart. When thinking of Sheronda, we can attest as Proverbs 31:30 declares Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
