Semmion Horne

Funeral services for Mr. Semmion Nathaniel Horne, of New Brunswick, New Jersey, formerly of Glenwood, will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Wabash Church of God, 500 Telfair Street, in Dublin. Burial will follow in the Baker Cemetery in Glenwood. Reverend Reginald May will officiate. Viewing will precede the service from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. Mr. Horne was born on September 17, 1922 in Glenwood, Georgia, as the son of the late Raymond and Bessie Horne. He was educated in the Wheeler County Public Schools and also attended the historic Dorchester Academy Boarding School in Midway, Georgia. Mr. Horne met and married Anna Lavada Morris, and moved his family to New Jersey where he built his first home on Ward Street in New Brunswick. He began working at E. R. Squibb and Sons (now Bristol-Myers Squibb), the pharmaceutical company from which he retired after 38 years. In addition to working for Squibb, he, along with his brother-in-law, William Howard, owned and operated Horne-Howard Construction Company which built a number of residential and commercial buildings throughout Middlesex and Somerset Counties in New Jersey. Mr. Horne was a founding member of the Community Church of God in Plainfield, New Jersey, and also served as president of the New Brunswick chapter of the NAACP for fourteen years. Semmion Horne departed this life on Monday, January 21, 2013. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his loving wife, Anna Lavada Horne; his devoted son, Raymond N. Horne; grandsons, LeDerick Horne and Raymond J. Horne; and great-granddaughters, Aniyah and Kamiylah Eads-Lundy; his sister, Martha M. Howard; brother-in-law, William Howard, and their children, Willard Howard, Gregory Howard, Marla Howard, Wendy Wright and Duane Howard; and a niece, Faye Marie Chappell and nephew, Raymond W. Horne.
