Funeral services for Mrs. Ruthie Mae McGirt O’Neal, of Dublin, will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 3 PM, at the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, 494 Evergreen Road, in Dublin. Reverend Winfred McCloud will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

She was born as Ruthie Mae McGirt on July 7, 1959, to the late Rev. Willie L. and Mellonea Robinson McGirt in Laurens County, Georgia. Mrs. O’Neal lived a vibrant, beautiful, and blessed life in Dublin, Georgia. She was an educated, Christian woman who loved helping others, which is why she chose nursing as her profession. She recently received Married Longest Award at Dublin High School’s Class of 1977 40th Class Reunion. She was a committed and compassionate nurse at Laurens Memorial Hospital, Fairview Park Hospital, and Carl Vinson VA Medical Center for a total of 35 years until her health declined. Mrs. O’Neal was a faithful and dedicated member of the Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher, Healthcare, and Deaconess Ministries. She entered into eternal rest on April 12, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her one sister, Maudia Hunt, and two brothers, Joseph McGirt and Patrick V. McGirt, and granddaughter, Courtney Magnolia O’Neal.

Mrs. O’Neal leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of 39 years, Herschel L. O’Neal, a son, Ricardio (Erica) O’Neal of Pearland, Texas, Sherrell Edmond and Shernetta O’Neal of Dublin, devoted nieces, Kaneshia McGirt of Dublin, and Cynthia Thomas of Lithonia, grandchildren, Charlee Nicole O’Neal and Corey Vallien of Pearland, Texas; four brothers, Willie (Algerine) McGirt, Macon, Jessie (Katrina) McGirt, Cleveland, Ohio, Ronnie McGirt, Rentz, Larry McGirt, Dublin; five sisters, Cora L. McGirt, New York, New York, Carrie Almedia, North Augusta, South Carolina, Mattie (Melvin) Holmes, Savannah, Bessie (Otha) Hall, Dudley, and Genial McGirt, Dublin; brothers in-law, Eugene (Ella Mae) O’Neal, Pastor Frankie (Pastor Leola) O’Neal, Dublin, Felton Coley, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Dorthy Wells, Dublin, Florine King, Cornie O’Neal, Mildred O’Neal, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Janice (Danny) Pittman, Dublin; godchildren, Rev. Cornelius D. (Tashena) Jones, Dublin; god-grandchildren, DeQuan Warner, Cochran, Tiffany Feliciano, Madison Jones, Cornelius Jones II of Dublin; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 879 Shamrock Court in Dublin.
