Funeral services for Mr. Ronnie Watkins of Queens, New York, formerly of Dublin, will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 1 PM, at the C. D. Dudley Memorial Chapel at the Dudley Funeral Home. Elder Cheryl Pope will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Ronnie Watkins, son of the late Salista Watkins, was born on December 5, 1960 in Dublin, Georgia, the youngest of three children. He attended church with his mother at a young age until the family relocated to Saint Albans, in Queens, New York. He attended Bayside High School in 1978, and later was employed with the Bobcat Company of New York, where he remained a dedicated employee for thirty plus years.
His love for music and old school cars was evident by his enormous album collection. Ronnie worked very hard to purchase his first muscle car, a bright orange 1967 Chevy Chevelle, and was very proud of that car. He was a self taught bass guitarist, who could play all genres of music, especially old school funk. He later joined a professional band, "Diamonds in Jupiter" as their original bass player in 2011 under the direction of Ms. Denise Santoro. Ronnie was a kind hearted, mild mannered man who was the calm in any storm. He was a cool dude, and was well liked by those who knew him. Ronnie passed away on September 10, 2019.
Ronnie is survived by his children, whom he loved and cherished dearly, Shemeka Watkins Saunders (Matthew), Ronnel Watkins, Vernell Watkins Sheldon (Sean), grandchildren, Kemani and Kemija Saunders, Deziya Braylen, his mother, Mrs. EsterBell Watkins, a devoted brother, Zachary Watkins, a sister, Frizetta Scott, a devoted niece, Concetta Monk (Denzel) devoted cousins, Curtis Cummings, Cheryl Pope, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the Dudley Funeral Home from 12-1 PM
