Robert Shipps

Robert “Bob” Gene Shipps of North Bend passed away April 8 in Portland, Oregon. Bob was born April 11, 1938 in San Bernardino, California. He joined the Navy at 17 and was stationed in both Pearl Harbor and Japan. He moved to Oregon in the 1960’s and began his career as a merchant marine working for Sause Brothers Ocean Towing Company, where he retired as captain after nearly 30 years of service. In 1975, Bob married Miriam “Merry” Bauer and together they raised two children.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved being in the outdoors. He was proud to be part of the Muscle Buster hiking group in Gold Beach and helped to maintain and hike miles of trails in Curry County with friends he made along the way. Bob leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Miriam Shipps, son Curtis Shipps of Longview, daughter Stacy Shipps Carpenter of Springfield, and daughter Latasha Shipps of Portland, as well as 7 grandchildren.
Private service will be held.
