Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee Day, Sr., of Dublin, will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 11 AM at the Greater New Friendship Baptist Church, 3265 Highway 19 South in Dublin. Pastor Nathan A. Amest will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Mount McCrae Church Cemetery.

Mr. Robert Lee Day, Sr. was born on December 25, 1933, in Laurens County, Georgia to the late Obie Lee and Mary Lou Rozier Day. He passed on July 11, 2017.

During his adult years, he moved to New York and joined the Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Prince Hall AFF Doric Lodge #53 in Hempstead, New York. He was also a very loyal Long Island, New York Boy Scout instructor and devoted leader.

Mr. Day was employed with the New York Transit Department as a bus driver and later as a motor man. Before retiring, he was promoted to the position of assistant senior dispatcher.

After retirement, Mr. Day moved back to Vidalia, Georgia, and reunited with the Greater New Friendship Baptist Church in Laurens County where he served on the Deacons Ministry, the Sunday School, the Male Choir and served as church photographer. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing.

Deacon Day was preceded in death by is parents, his son, Robert Lee Day, Jr. and a sister, Obie Lee Salter.

He leaves to cherish his memories and to celebrate his life with three children born during his former marriage to Mildred Day. They are Antionette Day, St. Thomas, Virgina Island, Cynthia (William) Thomas, Keller, Texas, and Christopher Day, Long Island, New York, four grandchildren: Kikora, Dominique, William and Malcom; two great grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Jimmy Salter, Canton, Ohio; a God-daughter, Monica Nash-Davis; two special friends, Maggie Bullard and Carol Smith, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loyal friends including those from the New York Transit System.
