R. Dean Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. R. Dean Mills Smith, also known as "Mama Dean", of East Dublin, will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 2:00 PM at Holly Spring Baptist Church, 705 Buckeye Road in East Dublin. Interment will follow in the Old Holly Spring Church Cemetery, 2345 Buckeye Road in East Dublin. Reverend Joe Moore will officiate.

Born as R. Dean Mills on May 7, 1949, in Johnson County, she passed on Wednesday March 27. She joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church at an early age, and in later years, joined Holly Spring Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board until her health declined.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Ella Mills, by her aunt, Zella Brown, and by cousins, Tommie and Author Wright. She attended school at Dock Kemp in Wrightsville and she was a caregiver for children for many years.

Survivors include a very devoted cousin, Edith Mills, Las Vegas; friends and cousins, Tommie Wright, Jr., Sandra Wright; cousins-in-law, Jackie Wright, Nina Wells, Roger Lee Jackson, Therlon W. May, James C. Hines, Nellie Montford, Leanoc P. (Mitchell) Williams, Russell Goodson, Phyillis Richardson, Judy Stuart, Rev. Elgin Dixon, Rev. Daryl Moore, Rev. Tim Chatman, Rev. Cecil Moore; stepdaughter, Delois Smith and many other cousins and friends who will always remember her.

The family will receive friends at 312 Jackson Street in East Dublin.
