Norman M. Lawrence passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, surrounded by his family.

Born in New London, CT, to James and Maria (nee Generali) Lawrence. He lived in Somerset, NJ for 48 years.

He retired from General Dynamics as a Senior Test Engineer. After retirement he promoted Fuelon with his dear friend George Zervopoulos. He is a Graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, MA, with a BSME. He was Valedictorian of Admiral Billard Academy and also attended the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. He served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army Signal Corps.

He was an active choir member, over 40 years, and parishioner of St. Matthias RC Church in Somerset. He enjoyed playing the piano, singing and his family.

Norman is survived by his wife of 56 years, Monica (nee Fitzgerald) and five children, Richard Lawrence of Englishtown, Eleanor and Steve Amato of Allentown, Robert and Ellen Lawrence of Edison, William and Lucy Lawrence of Piscataway, and Margaret and Jeff Temple of South Plainfield. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Brett, Nicole, and James. He is also survived by his brother Daniel and Shirley Lawrence, sister-in-law Marion DiGangi, and sister-in-law Iva Lawrence, all of Connecticut.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Mattias Roman Catholic Church, JFK Blvd. in Somerset. Visitation is Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset.

Entombment will be private at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
