Funeral Services for Mrs. Naomi Lewis of 1000 Rutland Drive in Dublin will be held on Saturday, November 10 at 11:00 AM at Green Grove Baptist Church at 317 Linder Street. Reverend Milton Hughes will officiate. Interment will be held on Monday, November 12, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, Florida. . Mrs. Lewis who passed on Sunday, November 4, 2012, was born November 11, 1934, in Port St. Joe, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Lela Clark Gant. She was reared and educated in the public schools of Port S. Joe, Florida, graduating from the Georgia Washington High School in 1952. In 1957, she graduated from Florida Memorial College in St. Augustine, Florida. She was a member of Zion Fair Baptist Church in Port St. Joe where she was member of the gospel Choir. She was married to the late Alphonso Alexander Lewis, Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Frances Lewis, and siblings Chester Gant, Jr. and Annie Baker. After teaching in Port St. Joe for a number of years, she moved to Laurens County where she taught at East Laurens Elementary and East Laurens Middle Schools. She was a firm disciplinarian who taught her students that their home training goes with them every step of their lives. In 2000, she retired after 37 years of dedicated service to the Laurens County School System. In recent years, Mrs. Lewis became a member of the Green Grove Baptist Church where she was an active participant in the Inspirational Choir and the Food Bank Ministry. Mrs. Lewis will be especially remembered by her children, Alphonso Lewis, Jr., of Dublin; Anthony Lewis of Atlanta and Harrell (Myra) Gant of Moultrie; a daughter, Linda Lee of Gainesville, Florida; brothers, Adrian (Mae Ella) Gant, Paul (Linda) Gant, Sr., Ernest (Gloria) Gant, all of Port St. Joe, Florida; Moses (Waddie Ruth) Gant of Charleston, West Virginia, and Dr. Raymond (Lenora) Gant, Fort Washington, Maryland; grandchildren, Alycia Gant, Selena Gant, and Alyxander Gant, Moultrie; Shervonte (Tyrand) Flowers of Orlando, Florida; Matice Lee, Gainesville, Florida; and Warren Lee, III of Atlanta; four great grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and former coworkers who will cherish the memories.
