Leonard Simington Jr was born to the parentage of Leonard Sr. and Emma Mathis Simington on June 14, 1936. He was born and raised in Clarksville, TX and met and married the love of his life Barbara Hodge on September 9, 1955 in Clarksville. Together they built 64 years of life, love, laughter, and family. Leonard’s career as a painter spanned over 42 years. He had the heart of a servant as shown through his service to his community and the many life-long relationships with family and friends. He served his community well and was very well respected by many. Leonard exemplified the love of Christ through all he did. He showed how Christ loved the church in the way that he loved his wife Barbara and always provided for her and their family. He showed how Christ loved us all in the way that he gave so much of himself to others whether it was encouraging someone, showing love to those who seemed unlovable, or sharing of his time, money, gifts, and talents. Leonard portrayed the love of Christ in the way he fulfilled God’s call to go into the world and make disciples. Leonard was not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and always shared his faith with anyone and everyone. Leonard always had a smile on his face and he never met a stranger. He exemplified the love of Christ in the way he served his church, Slate Rock Baptist Church. He served as a deacon for many years and served as Chairman of the Deacon Board until his passing. Even though his health was failing he never stopped serving God or serving others. He served on the Red River County Water Supply Board for 31 years and was recently recognized with a plaque for his service. One of the most important things to Leonard was his Jail Ministry. He served in this ministry for 14 years and saw many give their life to Christ. Even if there were some who were not saved one thing, they knew for sure is Leonard loved them. Many stayed in contact with Leonard even after their release because they knew he cared, and he encouraged them to make better choices. Leonard had a special place in his heart for all of his nieces and nephews. Everyone felt like they were his favorite.
