Funeral Services for Ms. Monique McCall-Blue, 58, of Dublin, will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2014, at 2 PM at the Dublin High School Auditorium, 1127 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin. Dr. Fred Williams will officiate, and Reverend E. Neal Dixon will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery in Dublin.
Monique Shoron McCall-Blue, 58, was born June 8, 1960. to the late Mr. Walter Edward McCall and Mrs. Arves Woods McCall.
At an early age, Ms. McCall-Blue accepted Christ and became a member of the Saint Paul A. M. E. Church. She was an active member of the gospel choir, the senior choir, secretary of the steward board, finance committee member, secretary of the church school, and Lay Organization.
Ms. McCall-Blue was a 1978 graduate of Dublin High School. In 1982, she received an undergraduate Bachelor of Science Degree in English, Speech, and Drama Communications from the University of Georgia. Later she obtained a Master of Science Degree in Education from Troy University.
Ms. McCall-Blue was employed by the Dublin City School System as a 9th grade English Teacher and Coordinator of 9th Grade Academy at Dublin High School. Ms. McCall-Blue served as Assistant to the Assessment Coordinator as well as a former coach of Extracurricular activities (i.e. Varsity Football and Basketball Cheerleaders). She also served as an educator at Crossroads Alternative School, Columbus High School, Dublin Jr. High School, Northside High School, and Snellville High School. Additionally, she served as Assistant Principal at Treutlen High School in Soperton, Georgia.
As the first Executive Director of the Community In Schools of Dublin-Laurens County, Ms. McCall-Blue continued to affect the lives of numerous youth and caused educational impact that assisted in their success. Due to her initiative and innovative practices, this youth program still stands twenty years later. Many local, state, and national awards have been received as a result of her contributions to this program.
Ms. McCall-Blue was actively involved in the community and served faithfully many civic organizations. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Voices of Joy Community Choir, Inc., served as hostess of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. Parade for twenty plus years, Dublin-Laurens County Black Festival Pageant Commentator, and as a distinguished pageant and competition cheerleading judge.
She departed this life on Thursday, February 21, 2019. She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Mr. James Robert McCall, Sr. and Mrs. Annie Bell McCall, Dublin; maternal grandparents, Mr. Roscoe Woods, Lagrange, and Mrs. Lillian E. Woods, Dublin; father, Mr. Walter Edward McCall, Dublin; and a brother, Mr. Jarvis Edward McCall, Dublin.
Ms. Monique Shoron McCall-Blue leaves to cherish her memory her loving children Victoria (Isac) Hollings Nunez, Dublin; Kethen Alexander Hollings and Kerry Michael Blue, Columbus; mother, Mrs. Arves Woods McCall, Dublin; Bronwyn Hughes of Columbus; godbrother, Dru (Malva) Watson, Rentz; grandchildren, Journee, Corey, Jourdyn, and Joia Washington all of Dublin; Zion Nunez King, Greenville, SC; uncle, James Robert McCall, Jr., Suisun City, CA; niece, Devona Watson, Dublin; nephews, Thomas Watson, Dublin and Branden Hughes, Columbus; a very devoted friend, Alfred Pearson, Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
