Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Smith Taylor, lovingly known as “Mother”, of Cadwell, Georgia, will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018, at 1 PM at the Rocky Creek Baptist Church, 2130 Georgia Hwy 338 in Dexter. Reverend Charlie Robinson will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs Taylor was the daughter of David and Hattie Whitehead. She was born in Dexter, Georgia, on April 4, 1922, as the youngest of 22 children. She married Johnny Calvin Smith, Sr., and later Orlando Taylor who both preceded her in death along with her daughters, Shirley Armstrong, Carolyn Harris, and Minnie Smith, her son-in-laws, James Jones, Jessie Wray Sr., and her daughter-in-law, Brenda Denise Smith. Mrs. Taylor was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church for many years and served as an usher for much of that time, as well as the mother of the church. She was the matriarch of the Smith family. During her marriage to Johnny C Smith, Sr., they raised 16 children and 2 grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family, attending church, fishing, gardening and watching baseball. She passed away on December 19, 2018.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her children, Levata Wilcox of Cadwell, Mary Smith of Bronx, New York, Johnny “Calvin” (Army Nell) Smith Jr., of Cadwell, Mildred Jones of Cadwell, Barbra Wray of Bronx, New York, Sandra Smith of Cadwell, Beverly (Curtis) Pauldo of Dublin, Donn Smith of Rentz, David Smith of Rentz, Danny (Verleen) Smith of Dublin, Linda (Charlie) Dassie of Cadwell, Alton Smith of Cadwell, Thomas (Debbie) Smith of Cadwell. In addition, she is survived by a host of grands, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchilddren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives who will miss her dearly.
