Marjorie Askey

Marjorie Ann Askey, 79, passed on February 27, 2016 after battling various health problems. She previously resided at 5288 Kyler Hill Rd., Little Valley, NY. She was born in Salamanca, NY on February 10, 1937 to Carroll and Mary (Hill) Webster. She grew up in Salamanca, NY with her mother and stepfather, Howard Drake. She graduated from Salamanca in 1954 and was married to James E. Askey, from Little Valley, on August 6, 1955. They were married for 51 years.

She is predeceased by her husband, James E. Askey; her grandson, Jordan Browne; her great grandson, Bryan Pope; and last year, her grandson, Joshua Gebauer.

She loved and enjoyed all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s school and sporting events and was very proud of all of them. She retired from Cattaraugus County Treasurers office, where she did the County payroll for years and was very active in the CSEA. After beating cancer for the second time in her life, she enjoyed her involvement with the Lost Chords group, as well. Since retiring, she has enjoyed traveling, luncheons and playing cards and bingo with her friends at Eden’s Nutrition Center, her Tai Chi classes and was active on the Board of Directors at the Concho County Hospital.

Surviving are a son, James C. (Tami) Askey of Little Valley, NY; Carol Meyers (Jerry Seiwert) of Farmersville, NY; Ann (Wayne) Gebauer of McCamey, TX; and Brenda (John) Wright of Eden, TX; 14 grandchildren, Derrick (Brieanne) Askey of Little Valley, NY; Nicholas (Cindy) Askey of Little Valley, NY; Shelby (Matthew) Sawicki of Freedom, NY; Kayla (Dennis) Green of Machias, NY; Melinda (Robert) Pope of McCamey, TX; Shannon (Richard) Cortez of McCamey, TX; Tyler Browne of Waco, TX; Garrett Browne of Menard, TX; Ryan and Deven Browne of Eden, TX; Missouri Wright of Denver, CO; Shelby, Adam and Andrew Wright of McCamey, TX; 15 great grandchildren, James and Declan Askey of Little Valley, NY; Isabelle and Evelyn Askey of Little Valley, NY; Jacek and Jaxon Sawicki of Freedom, NY; Miya Wagoner and Hayli and Brandon Green of Machias, NY; Bryanna Pope of McCamey, TX; Katelyn Waddell, Jade, Charlie, Jenna and Dillon Cortez of McCamey, TX; a brother, Wayne (Susan) Drake of Atlanta, GA and two nephews, Aaron and Anton Drake.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society. A small memorial service was held in Eden, TX on Tuesday, March 1, 2015 but Marge and Jim both wanted their ashes to be buried together on the family plot in Little Valley, NY. The family has chosen to have a celebration of life ceremony on their anniversary, August 6, 2016, followed by a reception. All family and friends are welcome to both events and can check with family on details closer to that date.
