Margaret King

Margaret Howard King of Hampton, VA, departed this life on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Margaret was born in Ahoskie, NC on January 8, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Gurney Emery Howard and Rhoda Collins Howard. She was affectionately known to her family and friends as "Babylock".
From about the age of five, she was raised by her mother's brother, Wheeler Collins and his wife Alice, in Newport News, VA. Margaret spent most of her summers in Ahoskie with her parents, sisters and brothers. She graduated from Huntington High School and Virginia State College, with a degree in Physical Education. She continued her studies at Indiana University, Hampton University, The College of William & Mary, and Old Dominion University.
She taught school for 35 years in several states to include Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia until her retirement from the Newport News Public School System.
She chose the spiritual path of Eckankar and was a 4th Degree Member.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Alphonso McClinton King, four brothers, one sister and one great grandson.
She is survived by her son, Jesse Collins King (Kathy), 6 grandchildren, Jesse King, Jr. (Seini), Brandy King Oliver (Ryan), Harlan King, Christopher Brown, Tiffany Bowie, Jacqueline Williams (Justice); 14 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Grendel Alice Howard and Avon Howard Stukes; 1 brother-in-law, Julius King (Elaine) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many loving and caring friends, including her life-long friend Doris Wyatt and dear friend Joyce Marshall.
Special companions Rockie and Rica.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, 12 noon, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Salon A, 1700 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, VA 23666. (757) 827-8200.
