Margaret (Eide) Kidder
On August 19, 2020, Margaret “Alice” passed peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old and lived all but 9 months in Novato, CA. Margaret was born in Oakland, CA to Hans and Alma Eide in September 1934. The Eide family, Hans and Alma, their eldest son Harry, and twins Margaret and Norman all moved to Novato in June 1935. She and Norman were only 9 months old. She was always proud to say she was a native of Novato. Margaret grew up on the family ranch on Canyon Road. They had cows, chickens, pigs, goats, 20+ cats and a few dogs. She attended Novato Grammar School and then on to San Rafael High School where she graduated in 1952. She married Robert Kidder in 1956 and they lived on Feliz Road until June 1964 when they purchased a home on Buchanan St. and where she has lived for past 56 years. Margaret and Robert had 3 daughters, Maryanne, Roxanne and Luanne. Margaret was good at a lot of things but most of all she was an excellent homemaker. She always kept the house clean, the clothes washed and dinner on the table every night at 5:30. She was a talented seamstress, who happily sewed clothes for her children. One year, she made all her girls matching holiday dresses. She loved leather craft and braiding wool rugs. For many years, she was a compassionate caregiver to her father, Hans and to 3 very close friends, Jane, Marlene and Bob. She was quite proud to talk about taking care of her friend, Bob. The doctors had given him 6 months to live and he survived 5 ½ years under her excellent caregiving and good cooking. Margaret traveled for 20+ years all over United States, Canada and Mexico. A few years with her friend, Bob and 16 years with her companion, Harry. She was a loyal SF Giants fan and loved to watch Joyce Meyer Ministries, Family Feud and Dr. Oz. She enjoyed gardening, attending to her fruit trees, playing card games and putting puzzles together with her grandchildren. Margaret was also a dedicated volunteer with American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and The Margaret Todd Center. She enjoyed her time at the dining room at The Margaret Todd Center (10+ years) where she knew so many of the people in Novato. Sadly, Margaret is preceded in death by her daughter, Roxanne Ellis in 2019. She is survived by her twin brother, Norman Eide of Novato, her cousin, Eva Rodgers of St. Louis, MO, her daughters, Maryanne Babbage (Ernie) of Santa Rosa, CA and Luanne Kidder of Novato, CA. And her grandchildren, Jeffrey Ellis (Valerie) of Rohnert Park, CA and Destiny and Dean Kidder-Buell of Novato, CA and many nieces, nephews and friends. There will be an interment at Valley Memorial Park in Novato. Please call: 415-246-2466 if you would like to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution in Margaret’s memory may be made to American Heart Association.
