Lurine Vaughns
Funeral services for Mrs. Lurine Vaughns, of Dublin, will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Jordan Grove Church Of God In Christ Christian Center, 1330 Highway 319 North in East Dublin. Superintendent Ira Edwards will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Vaughns, who passed May 10, 2016, was born on December 26, 1944, to the late Herschel and Louise Mack. Ms. Vaughns was born in Montrose, Georgia, and attended the Laurens County public schools.
Mrs. Vaughns retired after 34 years from Stanley Tools in New Britain, Connecticut, as a machinist. She then worked as a counselor at CCARC in Farmington, Connecticut, and retired permanently, returning to Laurens County.
While living in Connecticut, Mrs. Vaughns was an active supporter and member of New Hope Church of God in Christ of New Britain. Once returning to Laurens County, she made her church home at Jordan Grove Church of God in Christ in Dublin. At Jordan Grove, she was very active in the Women’s Department, the Mothers’ Board and was president of the Prayer Warriors. Ms. Vaughns was fondly known as “Mother Vaughns,” she would stop and pray with people she met every day. She wore her trade mark purple dresses to signify she belonged to Christ’s royal family.
Preceding Mrs. Vaughns in death were her parents; Simon “Pete” Vaughns, her ex-husband; Ebony Vaughns, her daughter; her sisters Ethel Mae Jones and Annie Lois Cooper; her brothers, Lewis Mack, Sr. and Freddie “Sonny” Mack, Sr.; and brothers-in-law, E.J. Jones, Willie Lawson, and Ulysses Cooper.
Left to cherish her long life of love and devotion are her son, Solomon Kareem Vaughns, Dublin; grandsons, Marcus Vaughns, and Trevor Vaughns; God-daughters, Rhoda Gilbert, Dublin, and Jomarchell Smith, Augusta; her sisters, Mattie Lawson, Montrose, and Marian (Joe) Smith, Dublin; her brothers, Herschel (Emily) Mack, Virginia Beach, VA; Marshall (Hazel) Mack, Virginia Beach, VA, and Kline Mack, Dublin; sisters-in-law, Christine Mack, Montrose, Mary Lee Thomas, Donna Vaughns, both from Hartford, CT; brothers–in-law, Michael Vaughns, Scott Vaughns; a special nephew, Joseph Mack; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.
The family will receive friends at 1003 Claxton Diary Road, Apt. C4, Dublin.
