Mrs. Luola Sims, 93 years old Clarksville, TX went to be with her heavenly father, September 28, 2013 in Paris Regional Medical Center, Paris, TX. Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 2, 2013, 11:00 A.M. at Citizens Funeral Home Chapel 500 E. Church Street, Clarksville, TX , Rev. P.A. Porchia, officiating. Interment in Fairground Cemetery. Under the direction of Citizens Funeral Home, 500 E. Church Street, Clarksville, TX
Born on October 20th, 1919, Luola Merrett was the only child born to Jack Merrett and Lucinda Hall (Lee) in McCurtain County, Oklahoma in the Richland Community. It was from there that she ascended to title of “Mother of Zion Travelers Baptist Church”. She was active in Zion Traveler for more than 80 years. Mother worked all of her life, to include more than 30 years at Red River Army Depot, where she retired as the supervisor of the North Wash Rack at RRAD. She is well known and loved by the majority of the population in Clarksville, where her door is always open and many calls her house “home”.
Preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, she leaves vast number of family, friends and loved ones to cherish many memories. They include: Three children, Willie Gooden (Stiger) of Texarkana, Elleanor King (Johnson) from Clarksville, and Robert Ross of Texarkana. Seven grandchildren, Cleve Gooden from Clarksville, Rickey Johnson of Dallas and Vickey Dillard (Johnson) of McKinney, Roderick Williams (Ross) from Houston, Ingrid Jackson (Ross) from Nashville, TN, Nekesha Morgan (Ross) from Ft. Campbell, KY, Katrena Pattin (Ross) from Texarkana. Nine great grand children, Stacy, Jakari, Jajuan, Aerial, Keshawn, Isaiah, Bria, Micah, and Terrell. One great great grandchild, Eryn. Included as special confidants are Coletha Green, Iona Gails, Marjorie Parrish, and Rezell Jones.
