Lowell Spiller
Lowell H. “Red” Spiller passed away June 22, 2015 at Concho County Hospital. Funeral Services are to be held at 10:00 AM, Friday June 26, 2015 at the Eden First Baptist Church located at 101 Burleson Street, with burial to follow in the Eden Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday June 25, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Eden Funeral Home at 321 North Main Street which is Highway 83 North.
He was born December 30, 1927 in Brady, Texas to William Watson Spiller and Mary Bell Spiller. He married Ivie Louise Reavis on May 28, 1954 in Abilene, TX. He graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1954. He served two tours in the United States Navy. He was a business teacher at Big Lake, TX for three years. He retired as a State Parole Officer in 1982. He moved to Eden, TX in 1973 where he and Ivie ranched and contributed to community activities.
He was a member of the Eden First Baptist Church, Sheriff's Association, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, Texas Cattleman's Association, Lohn Valley Protective Association, Big Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Big Lake Lions Club, Concho County Hospital Board, Past President of the Eden Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Concho County Farm Bureau, Director of the Concho County Farm Bureau, and Past Commander of the Eden VFW.
Red was a devoted and appreciative husband to Ivie for over 61 years. Red was also a dedicated family man. Red and Ivie hosted the annual Spiller reunion in Eden since 1973 with sometimes over 100 in attendance. He was the glue that held the Spiller family together. Red was beloved by a host of family members and dear personal friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by one sister, Berniece Wittkopf of Hastings, MN and one brother James Spiller and wife Valeria; two children, son Robert Edward Spiller of Greenwood, MS and daughter Paula Spiller Baldree and husband Randy of Pullman, WA.; three grandchildren Travis Baldree and wife Katie of Seattle, WA, Dan Baldree and wife Anna of San Jose, CA, Joanna Baldree Robinson and husband Edward of Coto de Caza, CA.; four great-grandchildren Matt, Lorelei, Zoey and Emma Baldree; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
