Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Coon Cherry, of Lumber City, Georgia, will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the C. D. Dudley Memorial Chapel at the Dudley Funeral Home. Elder Grady Bell will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Cherry, daughter of the late Lillian Louise Adams and Walter Coons, was born on August 12, 1937, in Dexter. She received her education in Laurens County schools. She established her career as an employee for 25 years at Palmetto General Hospital in Miami, Florida. She relocated to Lumber City after her retirement. Mrs. Cherry departed this life on February 20, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cherry, sister, Annie Ruth Stevens, two brothers, L.H. Coons and A.W. Coons, two aunts, Beulah Stone and Lila Adams, niece-in-law Teresita Stevens, brother-in-law, Carl Stevens Jr., sister-in-law, Eudell Newsome, nephew, Carl Stevens, III, and by a great niece, Sha-Twain Stevens.

Mrs. Cherry leaves to cherish her memory, long-time male companion, Jessie (Sonny) Jones, four nieces, Carol (the late Michael) Simpson of Irvington, New Jersey, Olivie (Sampson) Lowery of Newark, New Jersey, Joyce (Larry) Stewart of Union, New Jersey, and Lakeisha Newsome of Inkster, Michigan, one brother-in-law, Nathaniel Newsome of Inskter, Michigan, four nephews Tobe (the late Florine) Stevens, Jr., of Baltimore, Maryland, Ray (Paula) Coons, of Dublin, Georgia, Antonio (Katina) Green of Dexter, and Glenn (Janice) Newsome of Stone Mountain, fourteen grand nieces and nephews, twenty-seven great nieces and nephews and fourteen great, great-nieces and nephew, and a host of relatives and friends.

A wake will be held on Friday, 7-8 PM at Saint James CME Church, 224 Ware Street in Lumber City, Georgia.
