Lewis Brantley
Funeral services for Reverend Lewis Brantley of Wrightsville will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 12 PM at the Community Missionary Baptist Church, 627 James Grove Church Road in Wrightsville. Reverend David Hall will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brantley Chapel Church Cemetery.
Reverend Lewis A. Brantley, who passed on August 24, 2014, was born on August 18, 1931, to the late Charlie B. Brantley, Sr. and the late Rosa L. Moorman Brantley-Charlton. He was a faithful man of God who answered his call to the ministry at the young age of 24. He has served in such capacities as pastor or assistant pastor to the following churches throughout his life: Community Baptist Church in Wrightsville; Claxton Grove Baptist Church in Wrightsville, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Wrightsville, White Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Lyons, Walker Chapel Baptist Church in Johnson County, Antioch Baptist Church in Wrightsville, Mount Olive Baptist Church in Meeks, Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Dublin, and a small host of others.
He was educated through the public schools of Johnson County. Lewis worked for the City of Wrightsville Sanitation Department for more than 30 years until his retirement. He was also faithfully employed by the Bank of Wrightsville for more than 40 years and served until his recent illness. He has been an active leader in his community as well as church. He was a member of the Geneva Lodge Masonic Masons; the local chapter of the NAACP, and the WBMS Society.
Reverend Lewis leaves to mourn the love of his life for 63 years, Lula B. Hicks Brantley. To this union, ten children were born. One son, Herbert Brantley, preceded him in death. He also leaves to cherish his loving memories three daughters: Ernestine Brantley Lilley; Gerri Brantley Sebastian, both of Dublin; and Carolyn Brantley Davis (Keith) of Atlanta; six sons: David Brantley of Wrightsville; John Brantley; Benny Brantley, Sr. (Marie); Warren Brantley (Gwendolyn); Anthony Brantley; and Wyman Brantley all of Dublin; twenty grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Other devoted family members include four sisters: Ethel M. Gatewood (late John Gatewood) of Morven, North Carolina; Annie R. Brantley of Wrightsville; late Geneva Parker (late Willie Parker) of Vaux Hall, New Jersey; late Willie Mae Parker (late Ernest Parker) of Dublin; six brothers, J.W. Brantley (Trudie) of Dublin; late George Brantley (late Dorothy) and James Brantley (Gloria) both of Vaux Hall, New Jersey; Eddie Brantley (Lillian) and Richard Brantley (Shirley) both of Miami, Florida; late Charlie B. Brantley, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Johnnie Hicks Young (Carl Young, Sr.) of Philadelphia, Philadelphia.; late Betty Pace and late Lessie Dixon (late J.C. Dixon) both of Wrightsville; six brothers-in-law, William Hicks of Alexandria, Virginia; Benny (Annie R.) Hicks of Roxbury, Massachusetts; late Herman Hicks, late James L. Hicks; late Lee Arthur Hicks; late Edward Hicks all of Wrightsville; mother and father-in-law, late Lula B. Green Hicks and late John B. Hicks of Wrightsville; aunt and uncle, late Horace Hodges and late Willie Pearl Hodges; in addition to several loving aunts and uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends at the family residence 1044 Hightower Road in Wrightsville.
