Funeral services for Mrs. Leila Brown, 103, of Hazlehurst, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 12 PM at Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1203 Center Avenue in Helena. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hazlehurst. Overseer E. Neal Dixon will officiate.

Mother Lelia Brown was born in Baxley, Appling County, on March 17, 1911, to the late Ellis Alderman, Sr. and the late Martha Croon Alderman. Mrs. Brown made her transition on Thursday, July 3, 2014. At the age of ninety, Mrs. Brown returned to her birthplace of Hazlehurst. She was well known, loved and respected as “Mrs. Lelia” to many in the community. For forty years, she was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Trenton, New Jersey, where she served as a Willing Worker Club member, in the Senior Choir, and on the Kitchen Committee. She was a member of the Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Helena under the leadership of E. Neal Dixon where she served on the mother board, and as a member of the Gold Club.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by three husbands; Lucious Mcrae, Charles Alexander and Reverend Jessie Brown; two sons, Lucious McRae, Jr., and Archie Lee McRae, six brothers, James, Arthur, David, Roosevelt, Ellis, Jr, and Thomas (TS); and three sisters, Beulah, Queen Ester, Isabelle and Clara.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Charles (Thelma) McRae of Norwalk, Connecticut, and Cecil (Debra) Alexander of Lakeland; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Knox of Jonesboro, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and six step-daughters.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 am until the funeral hour at Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
