Katie Hall
Funeral services for Mrs. Katie Mae Hall, of Dublin, will be held at 11 AM, on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 2418 Highway 441 South in Dublin. Reverend Milton Hughes will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Reedy Springs Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Hall was born December 20, 1932, in Scott, Georgia, to the late Jane Hardy and William Lewis. Katie Mae accepted Christ at an early age. She received her education in the Laurens County public schools, however, she could not complete her education because she had to work to help support the family.
She moved to Rochester, New York, to seek better employment opportunities in the late 1950's. Because of her limited education, she found it very difficult to pass the civil service test, however, she did not let that deter her from succeeding, Because of her persistence and determination she took the test five times and eventually passed. She was then employed by the Rochester Psychiatric Center, formally known as the State Hospital, as a dining room attendant in Rochester, New York. She retired after 25 years of devoted service and moved back home in 1983 to Dublin, Georgia, where she lived the remainder of her years.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Joseph Brooks, and to that union three children, Joseph, Jr., Nathaniel, and Garrett, were born, She later met and married the late Carlton Hall, and to that union two children, Alfonzo and Carlton, Jr., were born.
Mrs. Hall enjoyed fishing, board games, cards and dominoes. She was an extraordinary person who had a very strong personality. She was a homemaker, counselor, caretaker, bread winner, black business woman and she raised five boys. We cherished every moment that God allowed her to be with us on this earth. After her lengthy illness on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, God called the roll and included Katie Mae Hall.
She was preceded in death by her three sons, Joseph Jr., Nathaniel, and Garrett; one brother, T. J. Lewis, one sister, Doretha Rivers. Mrs. Hall leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Alfonzo (Lishia) of Rochester, New York, and Carlton (Sonya) of Dublin, Georgia, one brother, Nathaniel Lewis of Dublin, two daughters-In-law, Linda Merritt-Brooks and Joyce Brooks, both of Rochester, New York, brother-in-law, Horace Hall, Swainsboro, and an adopted son, Jerome Henderson, of Rochester, New York, twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, sixty-one great-great grandchildren and eight great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Special thanks to her granddaughter, Tameika Smith, and a dear friend, Katie Wells.
The family is receiving friends at 202 Mitchell Street in Dublin, and on Friday, 6-7 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home.
