Funeral services for Mr. John R. “Luke” Smith, of Dublin, will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Mount Tilla Baptist Church, 2424 US 441 in Irwinton. Reverend Harold J. Banks will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. John R. "Luke" Smith was born on March 8, 1937, to his parents, the late Henry and Pearl Smith. He was educated in the public schools in Wilkinson County. He was retired from the Laurens County Public Landfill where he was the supervisor. Mr. Smith joined Mount Tilla Baptist Church at an early age, and he rededicated his life to Christ on November 18, 2018. He passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019, after an extended four year illness.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his sweet baby daughter, Ms. Sara Jean Smith, and by a number of siblings.

Mr. Smith leaves behind to mourn his death a devoted wife of 64 years, Margaret Smith; six daughters, Judy (Doyle) Stanley, Debra Smith, Mary Ann Cummings, Lesia Smith Jones, MauRene Smith, all of Dublin, and Barbara Ann Smith of Stockbridge; two sons, John R. Smith of Dublin, and Avis Lamar (Nancy) Smith of Warner Robins; one sister, Corrine Gervin of Camilla, three sisters-in-law, Daisy Watkins, Mary Alice (Wesley) Prince, and Carolyn (James) McMiller, fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; a devoted former son-in-law, Curtis J. Cummings of Dudley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
