James "Jody" La Ray Evans, 64, of Eden was called home by his Lord and Savior in the early morning of Monday, January 27, 2014. A church service is 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Hallelujah Trail Cowboy Church in Eden officiated by Brother Steve Belote and followed by interment in Eden Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jarryd Evans, Jacob Hester, Bobby Medders, Jason Medders, Randy Dunaway and Mark Osburn. Honorary pallbearers are all (Fellow Fireman Family), and Tyrell Medders, Dave Evans, Allen Osburn, Jimmy Fuson, Johnny Merrill, John Switzer and Steve Angel, Anthrone Jones.

Jody was born May 17, 1949 to James Howell Evans and Dorothy Lucille Carry Evans. He lived in Eden for most of his life where he and his wife, Bonnie, raised their two sons, Joey and Cody. Jody was part of the Eden Volunteer Fire Department family for 46 years and was an instructor of A&M Fire School for 25 years. In 1986 Jody received Texas' first "Firefighter of the Year" award. He not only spent his time fighting fires, he was Eden EMS for 25 years as well. He helped family, friends and strangers everyday in one way or another. Jody was a member of the Lions Club and served on Eden City Council and received "Citizen of the Year" award one year. He is blessed with a large family and an abundance of friends who will miss Jody tremendously. Jody was a good man with a big heart.

Jody leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie Evans; two sons, Joey Evans and Cody Evans and wife, Lisa; two sisters, Judy Medders and husband Bobby and Sam Medders and husband Tony, all of Eden; one Uncle, David L. Evans, of Avenger, TX, and three grandchildren, Jarryd Evans, Jacob Hester and Hanna Evans all of Eden.
